of history, of memory,
of now and once.
How does an almost-memory resonate?

Vila Buarque breathes and sweats the utopias and nightmares from the 1960’s. Rebel winds blew: the famous MPB festivals, the counterculture, the tropicália movement, the sexual freedom, effervescent independent theater scene, make love not war, allergic trips, everything was divine and wonderful. Or not. In 1964, the military coup interrupted the democracy in Brazil and established an authoritarian regime for more than 20 years.

Back then, Maria Antonia street was a micro cosmos of political tensions that divided the country. In 1968, this street was stage for a violent battle between antagonistic student groups, that left deep scars. Is it possible to reconnect the past?

The idea of minhocão is also from the end of the 60’s… a ‘national engineering miracle’! The reinforced concrete has too separated a street, split the neighborhood and the city. Ahead Brazil! May the dryness and weight of the big urban worm concrete not let us forget the darkest period of the military dictatorship.
