TRIAD TOUR SÃO BENTO traverses a region in downtown São Paulo that houses important historical artifact. The participants, equipped with headphones, are conducted through what once was, in the beginning of the XX century, the financial, commercial and social district of the city. Through in-off storytelling, the tour takes a trip in time, aiming to provoke reflections about body and city, noise and silence, past and present.
The real-fictional narrative axis is established around the Martinelli building, a ‘paulistano’ symbol that in 1929 was the first skyscraper in Latin America. During the construction of said building, the population feared its fall, raising questions about the meaning of the verticalization of the city. From its peak, with parties that gathered the city’s social elite, to its decline in the 1970’s when, as a reflection of the disinvestment in the downtown area, became a vertical slum. Nowadays, the Martinelli undergoes a hygienist process, similar to other criminal evictions happening in the city.
