ABOUT TRIAD

TRÍADE (São Paulo/Brazil) develops research in dance, performance, installation and urban intervention. Acting since 2008, the group has been acknowledged by important awards and funding in the country: Fomento à Dança para a Cidade de São Paulo (33rd, 17th and 10th editions), Award Funarte Klauss Vianna, ProAC de Pesquisa em Artes Cênica, ProAC de Formação e Difusão Cultural e Edital de Ocupação da Caixa Cultural. As an invited group, has participated in national and international festivals and residencies: La Factorine, in Nancy (France) in 2018; Semanas de Dança do CCSP; VII, X e XI editions of the Bienal Sesc de Dança (2013, 2017 and 2019); 7th edition of the project performáticos_inquietos_radicais (Sesc Belenzinho, São Paulo); Circuito Cultural Paulista 2014 (São Paulo/Brazil) and 6th edition of the event “Modos de Existir” (Sesc Santo Amaro, São Paulo). Integrates the virtual collection of the Museu da Dança, in the exhibit “A Dança no Espaço Urbano” (2015). In 2023, created and carried out the I FÓRUM BODIES IN DECELERATION, with researchers and artists invited to expand exchanges and dance the concerns about the dances and the deceleration in/of the bodies.

Our creations articulate the artistic production to a specific context – understood as historic process and social space. We develop performative devices and choreographic games that approach and discuss the forces in tension in the city and/or the society. We created a great variety of works, organized in three main axis of research: BODY.CITY; ART.VALUE.WORK and BODIES IN DECELERATION.

ART.VALUE.WORK is the oldest research axis of the group, from where its name emerges. In 2008, TRÍADE was born with the project BICHOS DA SEDA DESLOCADOS?, a contextual analysis of the São Paulo dance scenario and the reality of work (and survival) of the artists. Our hypothesis was that the context of production – for example, the conditions to dedicate to research – would imply in the artistic format. At that moment the conceptual triad that names the group could be summarized as ART.IINSTITUTION.WORK. In 2017, we dislocated the research to the actual triad: ART.VALUE.WORK, and its central subjects that are the value of art, art as work and the artist as a worker. This series is formed by the performances CASA DA MOEDA (2019), LEILÃO (2019), PROMOÇÃO (2018), CACHÊ (2017) e CRISE (2017).

BODY.CITY was born from the project JARDINS|corpos em diálogo com arte instalada na rua (2010), and the result was the first edition of TRÍADE TOUR São Bento (2011), an interactive choreographic ride, audio guided and inspired in guided touristic tours. From its creation, TRÍADE TOUR has matured and earned other editions: TRÍADE TOUR Ouvirundum (2013), TRÍADE TOUR Santos (2013) e TRÍADE TOUR Vila Buarque (2018). Later, the research of this axis would unfold in the laboratory of creation and urban interventions TRÍADE Móbile (2013) and in the performance Série Cartocoreográfica (2014).

In 2023, we opened a new axis of research: BODIES IN DECELERATION, the aging, the passage of time and the deceleration in/of the bodies, specially in dance. This body that decelerates, what space does it have and – more important - what space does it want to have? This axis is formed by LABORATÓRIO | TIQUETAQUE; the TRÍPTICO| TIQUETAQUE; the FÓRUM BODIES IN DECELERATION and RESIDÊNCIA Grupa BODIES IN DECELERATION.

In terms of language, the series JOGOS COREOGRÁFICOS developed since 2017, deserves special mention. They are plastic-choreographic-reflexive devices destined to the participation of people of all ages. It expands the idea of choreography to the relationship of the participant-body with the ideas exposed in choreographic boards of great dimensions.

Installed in public spaces – such as the common areas of cultural centers, squares or sports courts – these board-installations are, concomitantly, the physical space of the game and a social space for reflection or discussion around a specific question. Some of the subjects of our recent productions were: the world of work, gender, privileges, rules and disciplines and aging. The series is formed by LABOR (2017), LABUTA (2017), apartequetecabe (2017), “X” (2019) , Bichos de Clarice (2019), QUEM SEGUE AS SETAS? (2019) e TIQUETAQUE (2022).

Last, we can highlight two investigations theoretic-practical investigations conducted by the group that culminated in publications. In common, both are based in a liminal comprehension of the dance and proposed carry out contextual analysis of the sector. In 2008, the project BICHOS DA SEDA DESLOCADOS?, above mentioned. And in 2015, in partnership with Coletivo Cartográfico, the project LIMINARIDADE | 5 MOVEMENTS, culminated in the publication of LIMINARIDADES, organized in five axis:1. publication, collection and record; 2. city, adrift and cartography; 3. de_frontiers between arts; 4. art-activism; 5. body as performative construction.
