JARDINS - Corpos em diálogo com arte instalada na rua

Performances Urban Intervention Research

YEAR. 2011

VENUE. Multiple location

AXIS.

Which body is spoken of when we say ‘daily body’? Our dancer body, that daily exercises in the rehearsal room? The body of multiple hours in front of the computer? The body that lives locked up in cars and condos? The body that wanders in a shopping mall? The body crushed in public transport? Daily body of whom? And perhaps, in the streets, somehow, all of them pass by and observe themselves?

JARDINS emerges from Jardins de Vestígios (of Mariana Vaz): walking idly, with no certain sense and experimenting the city in another rhythm, with other eyes. Wandering through the city, dried leaves in varied forms and colors sprout in the eyes as little wanderer prizes. The active meditation results in the construction of Jardins de Vestígios – dried leaves curtains united by nylon threads. The curtain cuts out the space and transforms the city in subject and territory of artistic questionings and manifestations. Nonetheless, the bodies of the passersby (and of the gardeners-performers) have the opportunity to, in dialogue with the installation, dislocate themselves from their daily routine.

We’ve invited three artists (Flavia Melman, Larissa Salgado and Natalia Mallo) to collaborate with the research. Three editions of Jardins de Vestígios Vestígios were put together in three locations in the city: São Bento street; Minhocão and Paraisópolis. Starting from the perceptions of groups of artists collected from the initial performances, we decided to dislocate the continuity of the research to the middle of the street: São Bento became a stage. We carried out, weekly, one or two new interventions and, slowly, we began to be recognized and to recognize the characters of that place. They would ask us what we were doing. We didn’t answer. We were driven by the stories we could provoke.

JARDINS resulted in the creation of the first version of the historical-fictional audio tour TRIAD TOUR SÃO BENTO and opened the axis of research CORPO CIDADE of the group
